Vitamin B5
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is the precursor of coenzyme A, which plays an essential role in many different body processes. Vitamin B5 is important for the synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones, melatonin and some neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, thus making it a major contributor to mental balance and performance. Vitamin B5 is also known as the anti-stress vitamin because it influences many of the chemical messengers that regulate stress reactions.
Vitamin B5 is also necessary for the synthesis of provitamin D and coenzyme Q10. Together with coenzyme A, it also supports the production of energy in the citrate cycle in the mitochondria. This vitamin is therefore helpful when combating tiredness or for maintaining mental performance.
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is also used externally through its addition to many ointments and creams.
