The açaí (pronounced: ah-sah-ee) is a deep violet coloured berry from the açaí palm tree (Euterpe oleracea). The common name for the plant is a Portuguese derivative of the original Tupi name: ïwaca'i. The açaí berry was a nutritious staple in the diet of the indigenous Tupi people of Brazil and has become popular across the world as a superfood.
Açaí is rich in effective antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Vitamin A (which supports vision, skin and the immune system) and omega-3 fatty acids (which are good for heart functioning and the skin) are just two of many important nutrients in açaí. The lesser known anthocyanins, however, are worth mentioning. The name of these bioflavonoids is derived from Greek ("antho" = blossom, "kyaneos" = dark-coloured) and refers to the deep red or violet colour that these compounds exhibit in flowers and fruits. Within plants, anthocyanins absorb sunlight and protect against UV light by neutralising free radicals. In the human body, oxidative stress caused by UV light, toxins, and stressful situations can also create free radicals. The antioxidants contained in our açaí powder can help counteract the effects of oxidative stress.
The energising and synergistic compounds within açaí are ideal as a food supplement and are especially beneficial to athletes. The fruity flavour of our açaí powder also makes it a great addition to smoothies, bowls, and juices.
Our açaí powder made from wild-grown berries from the Amazon contains all the compounds found in the original berry, and is as nutritious and effective as eating fresh berries.
