Our natural astaxanthin from native Hawaiian microalgae (Haematococcus pluvialis) is 100% original BioAstin® from Hawaii, supplied by a global market leader with a heritage that spans over 30 years. The unique location of Hawaii's Kona Coast offers more sunlight year-round than any other coastal location in the US, allowing the seaweed to grow continuously 12 months a year. Sustainable cultivation takes place in the island's highly pure spring water, which is purified and reused several times, using resources sparingly. The natural lava rock and highly pure Pacific deep sea water ensure a rich supply of minerals and trace elements, without the use of artificial fertilisers. The production is 100% vegan, without the use of fish meal.
BioAstin® comes from Hawaii's only microalgae farm in a "Biosecure Zone" where the use of pesticides, chemical fertilisers and genetically modified organisms is prohibited throughout the entire area. This guarantees the highest purity of algae, which is protected from exposure to pesticides, heavy metals and other toxins, as proven by regular laboratory tests. The state-of-the-art breeding tanks are constantly monitored in order to prevent the growth of foreign algae, which leads to contamination by other algae species in open breeding tanks. In open breeding tanks, the algae can generate their natural strength and vibrancy unlike algae in closed tube systems.
Much of the microalgae used for astaxanthin production that is otherwise available on the market is grown under artificial light in indoor glass tube systems, which is much less natural and environmentally friendly than sustainable cultivation in open-air breeding tanks. Also commercially available is completely synthetically produced astaxanthin, which is synthesised from petroleum chemicals or yeast. It is mainly used for animal feed and, for example, in salmon farming to achieve the appealing red colouration of the fish.
Unlike such isolated, synthetically produced astaxanthin, our natural astaxanthin is incorporated into a natural complex of other phytochemicals. The raw material BioAstin® is astaxanthin-containing Haematococcus extract with safflower oil as natural carrier oil, which has a particularly high oleic acid content. Due to the gentle spray-drying according to the ocean-chill method at low temperatures, the full content of the valuable carotenoids and the powerful potential is preserved. BioAstin® Hawaiian Astaxanthin is grown without harmful pesticides and herbicides and does not cause land erosion or water pollution.
Astaxanthin is fat soluble and has the best bioavailability in the form of liquid oil. That's why our capsules are not made from astaxanthin powder, but from liquid astaxanthin suspended in pure, high-quality MCT coconut oil, thereby delivering a significantly higher degree of bioavailability. Until now, the premium astaxanthin BioAstin® has only been available on the market in gelatine capsules or softgels. Our airtight and leak-proof GreenCaps help protect the selected oil-based raw materials from oxidation. The capsule shells are filled using nitrogen gas and then hermetically sealed, ensuring optimal freshness and extending the product's shelf life. Unlike most other HPMC capsules on the market, our GreenCaps are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans, PEG and gelatine. They are vegan, gluten free and allergen free. Once the capsules are ready, we package them in environmentally friendly amber glass.
